WEIGHT SHIFT WITH BALANCE- targets whole body shifting weght and practices balance

 

5 MINUTES ACROSS THE FLOOR 

 

PHRASE WORK ACROSS THE FLOOR- pair across the floor exercises together to make short phrases

 

 

20 MINUTES PHRASEWORK

 

teach a short phrase

split students into groups of 3 and give different movement qualities for them to embody

 

Your assignment is to take this movement and make it something new.

 

1.) Movement quality= Balletic graceful, beautiful, lengthened, light.

2.) Movement Quality=Hip hop, funk, locking, breaking and popping,stepping, vouging, wacking, battling

Movement Quality= jazzy, complex rhythms, sharp, hitting, swinging

Objectives for this specific class:

Students will explore the different elements of dance styles and learn to embody different qualities to change a style of movement.

 

 

Potential corrections or redirections you will most likely use in this class.

  • students not working/off task : go around and check in on each group, see what they have created so far

  • students do not understand the movement they have been given: ask students what a dancer of the style they have been given looks like, ask for movement quality words fromeach group member and encourage them to keep exploring those qualities

  • one student is leading the group while others are just following- ask each member of the group to come up with a word that describes their movement, and then ask them to perform a small part of the phrase that shows that
